Last week we pledged our support for Health and Safety Week 2016. Our Twitter profile @BlueSquareUK sported its Twibbon and we committed to continue to inspire excellence in health and safety on an ongoing basis.
On Tuesday we had a great day at the Safety and Health Expo at London’s Excel. One of the biggest highlights for us was the BSIF Safety Awards 2016 presentations.
If you didn’t make it, here are some of the innovative products that received recognition at the ceremony.
Winner of the most innovative product
Portwest Peak View helmet
Portwest say that their Peak View Helmet combines ‘innovation, design and safety.’ The unique helmet was a deserving winner of the coveted first prize.
The helmet has a translucent shell enabling the wearer to see through the peak and sides. This means that it is possible to look upwards without needing to tilt your head, a fantastic innovation in PPE.
The strong, lightweight polycarbonate shell also gives protection against UV rays. Watch their video to get a better idea of how they work.
Highly commended – most innovative products
Ladder stabilisers from RetraSafe
We were really impressed with RetraSafe’s ladder stabilisers, a really great product to reduce the risk of ladder accidents when working at height. They’re quick to install, easy to use and have a simple mechanism that means they’re easy to remove. The clever design makes the stablisers compact enough to store and carry with your ladders as you can see in the video.
They prevent ladders from slipping backwards and also stop it from going sideways. The legs work independently meaning that they still work on uneven or sloping ground.
Zonzini Stair Climber
Zonzini say their Domino stair climber is an ‘innovation in manual handling’.
Watch their video to see the stair climber in action – it’s really something! The Domino is said to be able to handle almost any stairway, take a wide variety of loads and has non-scratching tracks to protect all floors.
3M™ E-A-Rfit™ Validation System
The 3M™ E-A-Rfit™ Dual-Ear Validation System claims to ‘make it easy to measure every employee’s unique level of protection in hearing protection fit testing’ and ‘take the guesswork out of managing compliance in your hearing conservation program’.
It’s quick – both ears are tested together in less than 5 seconds. The tests are at 7 satandard frequencies and due to being science-based it’s objective, quantitative testing. It also has an earmuff and ear plug testing capability.
It sounds more complicated than it is. Three simple steps are outlined to you and you’ll get personalised results that enable you to protect your employees against noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).
Congratulations to all of the BSIF Safety Awards winners – amazing achievements and so fitting to have the awards presented during Health and Safety Week.
